This is the amazing book about two young people who are determined to fulfill their dream. Author of this book Maeve Binchy was an Irish novelist, short story writer, playwright, columnist, and speaker whose novels were translated into 37 languages, and sold in more than 40 million copies worldwide. “Scarlet Feather” takes place in Dublin and follows the one year in life of the main characters Cathy Scarlet and Tom Feather. Cathy and Tom have a dream to establish a catering company and they work very hard to fulfil their dream. However, while people who they barely know support them, some of their most close family members don’t consider their dream seriously and don’t support them.

“Scarlet Feather” is divided into chapters that refer to the months in year, starting from New Year’s Eve and January and finishing with December. In every chapter events from life of main characters are described. I like this organisation since it depicted in the great way how one year can mean a lot and change one’s life and how in one year time people can do a lot to improve their lives. During this book I could feel Cathy’s and Tom’s enthusiasm about their company, their determination to succeed and their passion in doing this because they love it, not just because of money. Their passion, determination and their friendship were main ingredients in their success. There are many great lessons to learn from Cathy and Tom about how to work on fulfilment of your dream.

Also, beside Cathy and Tom there are many other different characters in this book. Author through the stories of different characters provides picture of social circumstances in Ireland at the end of 20th century, where old rich families are being replaced with young entrepreneurs as blocks of society. I love how authors tells stories about different human personalities and how she puts them in different situations in which their personality appears in right light.

I enjoyed reading this book very much and I recommend it to everybody who wants to pursue dreams, but also to everyone who thinks that there is no solution for some problems and needs again to find passion and determination in his job. Also, this book will inspire and encourage you to believe in your self and work hard on your dreams despite lack of support, as main character Tom said “It’s all to do with having the dream. I don’t think you survive without one”.
