“Artemis” is science-fiction book which story is taking place in Artemis, the first city on the Moon. Author of this book is Andy Weir, software engineer, novelist, author of the bestselling book “The Martian” and winner of the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in 2016.  In “Artemis” Andy Weir will take you to the Moon while guiding you in all important science knowledge related to the human survival on the Moon.

Main character in the “Artemis” is Jazz Bashara, citizen of the Artemis, the first city on the Moon, who is engaged in different activities in order to earn money and survive. Jazz, the girl in her twenties, works as a porter and smuggler at the same time. Her desire to quickly earn a big sum of money will lead her into criminal activity, which will bring more complications to her life than what she was expected. Jazz is very intelligent, stubborn, independent and brave girl with good heart. I love how author depicts Jazz as real human with virtues and flaws, with a lot of mistakes in life showing that somebody doesn’t need to be perfect in order to be loved. Even if she made a lot of mistakes and hurt people that she loves, they still care about her and they are ready to help her. Also, Jazz is not afraid to admit her mistakes and to pay for them.

What I loved the most about this book is city Artemis itself and whole idea and story about city on the Moon. I love how author scientifically explained everything about functioning of the city on the Moon, paying attention on every detail: city organisation, rules, currency, safety, transportation, time zone, etc. Every aspect is so well explained in a way that is very easy to understand. And not only to understand, it makes city on the Moon very possible that I thought why there is no already city on the Moon. With author’s description and explanation, it is very easy to imagine foundation of the city on the Moon in near future.

I recommend this book to everyone; it’s kind of book that you will read from cover to cover in one breath. I have enjoyed so much reading of this book, I felt like I was really on the Moon, and it was hard at the end to return to the Earth. With this book Andy Weir reminds us how genius writer he is and challenges our imagination while taking us once again to the space. I love every aspect of this book: story, plot, characters, humour, scientific explanations, also, one of the quotes that I loved the most is the quote after fire destroyed one factory:

“Factories can be rebuilt. People can’t”.
