“The things you can see only when you slow down” is a self-help book that focuses on achieving calmness in today’s busy world. Author of this book is Haemin Sunim, Zen Buddhist Teacher who was born in South Korea and educated in USA. Since Haemin Sunim is often asked for advice on social medias and his responses positively affected lives of many people, the idea came to turn all this messages into book. The book had huge success in South Korea, where it was first published, and then it was translated into Chinese, Japanese, Thai, French and English.
“The things you can see only when you slow down” is divided into 8 chapters. In the first chapter, author is writing about rest and about how we experience world through the state of our mind. In the second chapter, author writes about mindfulness and also gives advice about what to do when we don’t feel well. Chapter three is about passion, while chapter four is dedicated to the art of maintain good relationships and importance of forgiveness. I love the format of this book with every chapter starting with the small introduction followed by life advice full of wisdom. Also, every chapter is accompanied by very beautiful illustrations. It could be said that this book is real jewel among books, which is good to have in home library and come back to it from time to time when you need some life advice. I recommend this book to everyone; it can help you to see the world with different eyes and realise that life is beautiful and many issues are solvable by slight changes in our behaviour and our thinking.
My favorite quotes from this book are:
“Life is like theatre. You are assigned a role. If you don’t like the role, keep in mind that you have the power to re-create the role you want”;
“Dream big but start small. A small adjustment can have a big effect on your life”;
“Knowledge wants to talk. Wisdom wants to listen”.
